At LGT, giving back is a key part of our philosophy. As a growing business in the wealth management sector, we believe it is our responsibility to use our resources to make a positive social impact within the wider community and support causes that are helping to tackle important issues. The firm’s charitable strategy is led by our Charities Committee, and every few years our people vote to select a new core charity partner, working closely with them to support fundraising and raise awareness through our network, for typically two years or more.
For the last three years, we have been proud to support Demelza as our core charity partner. Since its inception in 1998, Demelza has been providing specialist care and emotional support for babies, children and young people with serious or terminal illness and their families. Their work is a lifeline to over 750 young people and 4000 family members across the Southeast of England, offering support from diagnosis, day-to-day family life and times of crisis, to end of life and through bereavement.
Over the course of our partnership, we have been delighted to support a range of initiatives in aid of Demelza. Many of our people have undertaken numerous sponsored challenges, including skydiving, taking on the Three Peaks Challenge and running the London Marathon. We also regularly organise firm-wide fundraising events. A particular highlight in the fundraising calendar has been LGT’s Annual Dodgeball Tournament, during which teams from firms across the City of London compete in fancy dress for a good cause. This year saw the 11th anniversary of the tournament, with 40 teams from the financial services industry taking part. The event raised £34,640 for Demelza, which was matched by our Charities Committee to bring the fundraising total to over £69,000. Funds raised by LGT have made an important contribution to Demelza’s work, including helping to recruit a speech therapist as well as other healthcare professionals.
“It’s wonderful to see how engaged and enthusiastic our people are in getting involved in initiatives far beyond their day jobs.”
Throughout the partnership, our people have also given their time to volunteer with Demelza. Earlier this year, for example, a team of employees spent the day at Demelza’s Kent hospice in Sittingbourne, weeding, planting and cleaning to create a fairy garden for the children at the hospice. Volunteering with the charity has offered opportunities for our people to learn more about the vital work that Demelza does and engage meaningfully with the charity beyond financial contributions alone.
The last three years spent working with Demelza have been immensely rewarding and we are proud to have supported the essential work they do for young people and their families. As the partnership draws to a close, we extend our thanks to everyone involved – whether it be through volunteering, running, rowing, abseiling or climbing mountains. It has been gratifying to see how the partnership has brought people together from across the business, providing opportunities to create connections and meet new colleagues, fostering a sense of belonging and reinforcing our culture of collaboration along the way – all whilst supporting a very important cause. We look forward to announcing our new charity partner in the new year and continuing to give back to the wider community.
